A distribution channel phenomenon in which forecasts yield supply chain inefficiencies as one moves further upstream.

• Cause: Small fluctuations in demand at the retail level can cause progressively larger fluctuations at the wholesale, distributor, and manufacturer levels.
• Drivers: Lack of communication, disorganization, price variations.
• Mitigation: Information sharing, vendor-managed inventory, reducing lead times.
